Welcome to Izad
Izad is a women headed orgnization registered non-profit organization, working in Bihar on women’s rights with emphasis on dalit and minorities, especially young girls, children, and women at grassroots level. Izad believes in community development through participation of its own people.
Our goal is to empower women through capacity building trainings, bring them forward in education, make them self-reliance so that they claim their rights as decision-makers, advocates, and leaders, in all spheres of life.
Our vision is that all women especially dalit and minority become self-sustaining and remain well recognized in their community, well respected and truly empowered. We also seek to continue our role as advocate of women’s rights, promoter of women capacities and driving force of social change.
History of the organization
IZAD is an idea of social change, founded on 22nd August, 2002. ‘IZAD” is an Urdu language word which means ‘Invention’. The organization seeks to endeavour relentlessly to lessen human pain and suffering and to foster development of weaker sections on sustained basis. The founder of the organization is backed by professional education of social work from Institutes of Social Service, Bihar and had dedicated 17 years in practicing and translating the theory into action.
IZAD started over six years ago, in 2003, as a social organisation seeking to reach out to the most marginalised and vulnerable communities of the Indian subcontinent. Through the experience gained over the years and through constant evaluation, the organisation realised the need to change its approach. It thus moved from being a mere funding agency to a development organisation striving to make a difference in the lives of the vulnerable and the backward through meaningful partnerships with grass root NGOs and communities.
IZAD is registered under the Societies Registration Act, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. IZAD is a woman headed organization, and the secretary of the organisation Ms. Akhtari Begum has been associated with Centre for World Solidarity in the year 2003. Since then her vision has been to work for women and children of the minority community. The Vision of IZAD is to develop itself as a unique organization that works as a point of excellence by utilizing need based innovative methods to establish a just society where the people with particular thrust to the disadvantaged sections lead a dignified life.
The main focus of IZAD’s work is around empowerment of the people to fight for their rights, to run campaign against hunger, poverty, illiteracy, exploitation, gender discrimination, child labour and to find ways and means to make education a fundamental right for all children.
